8.1 Events (e.g., IPR registration, screenings, awards, etc.)
An Event characterises occurrences in the lifecycle of a moving image Work, Variant, Manifestation, or Item. In addition, instances of any Event type can have Agent and "Other" relationships.
The EN 15907 standard gives the following event types:
- Publication Event - A public screening or broadcast of a Manifestation, or a public release on a physical distribution medium or online. A publication event may be associated with instances of Agent, e.g. in the role of publisher, exhibition organiser, etc.
- Decision Event - A decision about the suitability of a cinematographic work or variant for a particular audience. Includes censorship and rating decisions. A Decision Event may be associated with instances of Agent, e.g. in the role of the agency performing the rating or censorship.
- IPR Registration event - A registration of intellectual property rights in a work. An IPR registration event can be associated with instances of Agent, e.g. in the role of applicant.
- Award - A bestowal of an award relating to the moving image work or to a specific achievement by an Agent within the context of the work, e.g. “best screenplay”, “best actor”, etc. Awards will be usually associated at the level of the work, except for cases where features of a particular variant are explicitly mentioned (e.g. "best audio commentary for the visually impaired") or the award relates to a particular manifestation (such as a DVD edition). An Award may be associated with instances of Agent in the role of individual winner, sponsor, etc., or with instances of Event, e.g. if the prizegiving ceremony was part of a festival.
- Production Event - A specific event in the creation of the moving image work. A distinct event in the course of production of a moving image work or variant that is significantly separated in space and/or time from the main production event, or is known with a greater amount of detail. Examples are dates and locations for casting, shootings or other recordings, or for particular post-production activities. Other production events may include the acquisition or rental of noteworthy property or accessories for the purpose of making the film. A production event may be associated with instances of Agent in the role of their specific involvement with the event.
- Preservation Event - An event in which the contents of one or more items (or fragments) from manifestations of a moving image were transferred to create a new manifestation or item with the intent of safeguarding the contents of a moving image from decay. Some preservation activities may result in a new variant, particularly if the contents of the moving image is affected by the process. A preservation event shall be associated with the variant, manifestation or item that resulted from the preservation process.
