2.1 Acknowledgements

This manual is a result of the combined efforts of many professionals to whom we owe our gratitude.

This is the second version of the FIAF Moving Image Cataloguing Manual, (V.02), aimed at updating and enhacing some sections, particularly cataloguing of digital files and creating new chapters for the Variant, Events, Agents and some others. These decisions were the result of discussions in the Cataloguing & Documentation Commission (CDC) Manual Task Force, headed by Natasha Fairbairn.

We won't forget the contributors to the earlier version of this Manual, (V.01), whose input continues to be valid and relevant: Anna Bohn, Marco Rendina, Rosario López de Prado, Anne-Marie Grapton, Andrea Leigh, Kelley McGrath, Laurent Bismuth, Georg Eckes, and Detlev Balzer. Several of the illuminating charts and examples, and other formatting needs (such as URLs) were kindly handled by Marian Hausner, Mats Skärstrand, and Miriam Campos-Quinn. Marian Hausner also did a painstaking job constructing the bibliography.

A very special thank you is owed to Nancy Goldman, who managed numerous steps of the original project, such as convening and chairing meetings and guiding the project’s development. She also contributed to the authoring of V.01 of the Manual and invested many hours in providing valuable insight and constructive criticism.

This work could not have been done without the support and guidance of the British Film Institute who contributed institutional policies and documents for our use. In particular, we want to mention Gabriele Popp, who encouraged and supported BFI staff involvement, and Stephen McConnachie, who generously contributed content and freely gave of his time and knowledge.

We are indebted to Linda Tadic, who did a superb job of editing the Manual in its first version.

We thank current and former members as well as the corresponding members of the CDC, the members of the FIAF Executive Committee, and the FIAF Senior Administrator Christophe Dupin for their support and active contributions.

We thank particularly Katerina Kampoli for contributing to the much needed chapter on Variants, thus bringing to this Manual the vision Laurent Bismuth had. Also, Circe Itzel Sanchez for bringing her extensive knowledge of bibliographic standards such as IFLA-Library Reference Model to development of the Agents chapter in particular, and also producing documents relating to mapping between standards and various illustrative diagrams, links to which can be found in the Manual.

This new version of the Manual would never have been possible without the support and knowledge of Paul Duchesne and Torbjørn Pedersen, who elated the CDC's Manual quite literally into another dimension (aka GitHub) and also developed a web version of it. We all learned a lot in the process!

Many professionals from the FIAF Cataloguing Rules Revision Working Group graciously volunteered their knowledge and experience to the review of this manual. Thank you very much for all the constructive feedback!

Lastly, a very special thanks to Natasha Fairbairn, who did an amazing job at writing new parts of the manual, editing others, generously sharing her many years of expertise and experience, and making sure, the right decisions were made.

This was a group effort: thank you very much!
